10 Ways Biometric Access Control Will Improve Your Company Security

If you're anxious about unauthorised access to computers after hours, strangers being seen in your building, or want to make sure that your employees are working where and when they say they are, then why not see how Biometric Access Control will help?

Here's what you need to know.

1. Biometric Access Control systems use parts of the body for recognition and identification, so that there are no PIN numbers or swipe cards required. This means that they can't be stolen or coerced from an employee, and so access can't be gained if the person is not authorised to have access.

2. As there are no additional cards or PIN numbers to remember, there is no chance of a genuine employee being denied access due to not having their card or for forgetting the access code.

3. Biometrics can be used in any sort of business, and it's not just for highly important government building or for protecting valuable stock or vulnerable premises. How could your staff benefit from being more secure and safer whilst at work?

4. As well as using fingerprints, the iris, retina and vein can all be used accurately to identify a person, and allow or deny them access. Some situations and industries might lend themselves well to finger prints, whereas others might be better off using retina or iris recognition technology.

5. Biometrics is a popular choice for access control system for airports. This is because there are lot of people around, such as passengers, flight crew, airline staff, and those who work in concessions. Ensuring that staff are only able to access the areas of the airport they need to will dramatically reduce the risk of somebody being somewhere they shouldn't be so reduce the likelihood of breaches of security.

6. Biometrics can also be used for highly effective Time and Attendance monitoring. As workers will no longer be able to "clock in" or out for their friends and colleagues, there will much less chance of people claiming for hours that they haven't worked.

7. Biometrics and Biometric Access Control systems are highly accurate, and like DNA in that the physical feature used to identify someone is unique. This virtually eliminates the risk of the wrong person being granted access.

8. There is an audit trail available through the biometrics system, so that the times and entrances of those who tried to enter can be known. This can also be used to great effect with CCTV and Video Analytics so that the person can be identified.

9. As the biometric feature is unique, there can be no swapping of pin number or using somebody else's card in order to gain access to the building, or another area within the building. This can mean that sales staff don't have to have access to the warehouse, or that factory workers on the production line, don't have to have access to the sales offices. This can help to reduce fraud and theft, and ensure that staff are where they are paid to be, at all times.

10. Using Biometrics is a cost effective way of improving security of any company. No matter whether you want to keep your staff in the right place at all times, or are guarding highly sensitive data or valuable goods, you too can find a highly effective system that will meet your present and future needs.
